Understanding shot parameters in Toptracer

Toptracer provides a wide range of parameters that describe the golf ball’s flight and, in some setups, the details of club impact. These numbers help golfers understand performance and give range operators a way to deliver a more data-driven, premium experience.

Toptracer camera system

The standard Toptracer camera system tracks the flight of every shot, delivering these parameters:

  • Flat Carry – Airborne distance to a flat landing area at the same elevation.
  • Total Distance – Carry plus roll.
  • Ball Speed – Speed of the ball as it leaves the clubface. A key distance factor.
  • Curve – Left/right curvature during flight.
  • Hang Time – Time in the air.
  • Height (Apex) – Maximum flight height.
  • Offline – Distance from the target line sideways.
  • Landing Angle – Angle of descent at ground impact.
  • Launch Angle – Initial vertical angle off the clubface.

Toptracer Indoor

Through our integration with Foresight Sports, the trusted leader in optical launch monitor technology, players enjoy instant, high-precision ball and club data within the Toptracer Indoor experience. This setup is especially useful for studios, coaching, and fitting:

  • Spin Rate – Revolutions per minute of the ball after impact. Higher spin aids control; lower spin may add distance.
  • Spin Axis – The tilt of the ball’s spin, which determines draw or fade.
  • Side Spin / Back Spin – Components of spin that influence curve and lift.
  • Launch Direction – The initial horizontal start angle relative to target.
  • Club Speed – Speed of the club head at impact.
  • Smash Factor – Ratio of ball speed to club speed; shows strike efficiency.
  • Attack Angle – Whether the club is moving up or down at impact.
  • Club Path – Direction the club is moving through impact.
  • Face Angle – Where the clubface points at impact (open, closed, or square).
  • Face to Path – Difference between club path and face angle, a key factor in shot shape.
  • Lie Angle – Shaft-to-ground angle at impact. Too upright/flat can cause misses.
  • Dynamic Loft – Loft delivered at impact, affecting launch and spin.
  • Closure Rate – How quickly the clubface rotates through impact.
  • Impact Location – Horizontal and vertical strike location on the face.

Additional performance measures

Available depending on game mode and setup:

  • Proximity to Pin – Distance to the target.
  • Resulting Lie – Final surface (fairway, rough, bunker).
  • Strokes Gained – Shot efficiency compared to a benchmark handicap.
  • Target Distance / Near Target – Distance to intended or nearest physical target.
  • Reference Handicap – Benchmark for assessment games like Toptracer30/12.
  • Performance Handicap – Live measure of ability calculated during assessments.

Why it matters

For golfers, these parameters turn practice into progress by showing what’s working and what to improve. For range operators, they add business value: more engaging sessions, stronger coaching tools, and opportunities for premium services like club fitting.
